OBJECTIVES

We are seeking an experienced Art Teacher/Technician to join our vibrant and highly-experienced art department, to teach various art disciplines and support our creative programmes. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent English skills, and a minimum of 2 years teaching experience. The ideal applicant will embrace and embody our school values, have a passion for the arts, and demonstrate a commitment to pupil development and welfare.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum and Teaching:

Curriculum:

• To teach Art from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5.

 • To work with the Head of Art and other staff on the development of schemes of work, helping to build opportunities for:

 • Ensuring progression

• Active learning

• Assessment for learning

• Meeting the needs of all learners

• Using technology to enhance learning

• Enrichment and external links

Learning:

 • To maintain up-to-date records of pupil progress across all aspects of performance

• To ensure that your pupils make good or outstanding progress in Humanities

• To deal effectively with behaviour, attendance and punctuality issues

Assessment:

• To carry out the regular assessment and marking of pupils' work, according to the departmental and whole school assessment and marking policy

• To keep records of pupil attainment and progress

• To monitor pupil achievement against school and national data at individual pupil and teaching group level, and to take action to improve achievement and address identified under achievement

Guidance & Welfare:

• Where appropriate, act as a form tutor, fulfilling the following functions:

• To take overall responsibility for monitoring tutees’ academic and wider progress and development, acting in line with school policies in this area

• To review progress and support pupils in target setting and action planning

• To ensure that all pupils are valued and treated according to the aims of the school

Technician Responsibilities:

• Provide classroom assistance and individual student support as needed.

• Ensure practical requirements for examinations are met.

• Maintain appropriate stock levels of materials; contribute towards stock records and carry out stock checks.

• Place and process orders; ensure expenditure is within departmental budget; check deliveries for accuracy and damage.

• Organize and store art equipment and materials following Health and Safety practices.

• Check materials and equipment for quantity and damage.

• Maintain satisfactory safety and security standards.

• Take charge of creating and maintaining displays around the school.

• Assist the head of the department with preparations for exhibitions throughout the year.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATION

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Major: Fine Art relevant

Language: Fluent in Chinese and English.

Working experience: 2 years relevant teaching experience or above

Management experience (if applicable): N/A

 

EXPERTISE

• Excellent subject knowledge and an interest in current developments in Fine Art

• Knowledge of A-level/GCSE/IGCSE Art curricula, their delivery and assessment, along with experience of teaching KS3 through to KS5

• High level of ICT competency in enriching pupils’ learning

• Confidence in teaching across the Fine Art specialisms

 • Experience teaching A-level Art is an advantage

• Experience teaching and mentoring EAL pupils is an advantage

• Knowledge of art materials and their safe handling and storage PREFERRED APTITUDES

• Excellent communication skills, written and spoken

 • Cross-cultural working experience is a significant advantage, sensitive to local customs and culture

• Excellent inter-personal skills

• Strong organisational, self-management and problem-solving skills

 • Displays passion for the education industry

 • Judgement to prioritise a demanding workload

• Personal integrity, accountability and credibility
