BILINGUAL MUSIC TEACHER (MATERNITY COVER)

OBJECTIVES

The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of music at Wellington College in Tianjin, working in close collaboration with the music team and under the guidance of the Director of Music. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver high-quality music lessons to pupils in the Senior School.
  • Create an inspiring and supportive learning environment that encourages musical exploration and excellence.
  • Coach choirs, ensembles, and individual pupils to help them reach their full potential.
  • Provide skilled piano accompaniment for pupil performances and rehearsals.
  • Assist with the organisation of all school music events, productions, and concerts.
  • Liaise with and hire local musicians to support school music events when required.
  • Oversee the maintenance, care, and purchasing of musical instruments.
  • Carry out administrative tasks within the Music Department.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATION

Education: Bachelor’s degree or a related discipline, plus a professional teaching qualification (preferred).

Major: A relevant major in music education, music, performing arts

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese to enable effective communication with pupils, parents, and colleagues.

  • Genuine passion for music and the ability to inspire pupils of varied backgrounds and abilities.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and awareness of current developments in music education.
  • Commitment to placing student wellbeing at the heart of your teaching, with a clear understanding of how to support the development of the Wellington values.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with qualities such as honesty, integrity, compassion, flexibility, and a good sense of humour.
  • Outstanding organisational, self-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during show seasons or prior to music performance events.

 

PREFERRED APTITUDES

  • Experience teaching music to pupils from KS3 level onwards.
  • Experience teaching IGCSE Music (preferred).
  • Experience in directing or producing concerts and school musical productions.
  • Confident pianist and accompanist.
  • Experience working with and mentoring EAL (English as an Additional Language) pupils.
