OBJECTIVES
We are looking for a qualified Learning Support Teacher who is keen to responsible for supporting the social, emotional and academic development of pupils in Hiba Academy Nantong. The role involves working closely with the Inclusion Team to identify areas of need and develop strategies to support positive behaviour, increased wellbeing and enable their achievement of academic targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Including all pupils
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify pupils needing additional support and develop strategies to address their academic, social or emotional needs.
- Set and monitor achievable targets for pupils, providing individualised guidance to help them succeed.
- Provide compassionate pastoral care to pupils facing personal or emotional challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and provide regular reports to the Head of Inclusion and Safeguarding.
- Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies, emphasizing positive reinforcement and proactive interventions.
- Train and mentor staff on effective pupil-teacher relationships and inclusive classroom practices.
- Encourage pupil growth through opportunities for developing responsibility and leadership.
Home-School Collaboration
- Build trusting relationships with parents through clear and consistent communication.
- Share curriculum details and collaborate with parents to understand pupils’ progress and needs.
- Support pupil learning by incorporating pupil’s and parent’s insights and preferences.
- Guide pupils and parents through the process of understanding learning needs, including identifying and communicating with external specialists (e.g., educational psychologists) when required.
- Promote awareness and address inquiries about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Professional Development
- Stay informed with advancements in SEND education, incorporating evidence-based practices into school.
- Engage in continuous professional development to refine skills that contribute to the school’s inclusive goals.
- Support the College Development Plan, particularly initiatives related to SEND and pastoral care.
BASIC QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor degree major in SEND or related education majors
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role
- Capable middle leaders who can demonstrate impact of developments and initiatives they have led will be considered
- In-depth knowledge of your teaching specialism
- Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and pastoral practices
- Native Chinese Speaker, fluent in English
PREFERRED APTITUDES
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both Chinese and English.
- Ability to assess pupils’ interests, needs and developments
- Ability to develop and administer SEND interventions
- Embody the Hiba Values
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Technical literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office
