OBJECTIVES

The Head of Primary ICT & EdTech plays a pivotal role in shaping the digital learning experience at Wellington College International Shanghai. The post-holder is responsible for delivering high-quality ICT and EdTech lessons within the Primary School and supporting the strategic development of technology-enhanced learning across the College.

This role combines excellent classroom practice with leadership in curriculum design, staff development, and innovation. The successful candidate will work closely with Primary and, where applicable, Secondary colleagues to ensure a coherent, progressive approach to computing, digital literacy, and educational technology, supporting pupils as confident, responsible, and capable digital learners.

A key aspect of the role is supporting teachers to integrate technology meaningfully into their teaching, through coaching, collaboration, and modelling best practice. The post-holder will also oversee the effective use of resources and emerging technologies, including AI, ensuring ethical, safe, and purposeful implementation.

This is a dynamic leadership role for an educator passionate about technology, pedagogy, and future-focused learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Main Responsibilities

Wellington College International Shanghai seeks a teacher who is excited by the opportunity to strengthen and expand the aspect ICT and EdTech within the teaching and learning across the school and to drive engaging, forward-thinking initiatives for both pupils and staff.

The Head of Primary ICT & EdTech will be responsible for delivering lessons to pupils within the Primary School and for planning and preparing lessons in alignment with College curriculum expectations.

The post-holder is also expected to undertake additional duties as reasonably directed by the Head of Primary, the Primary Leadership Team, or the Senior Leadership Team. All Wellington College International Shanghai employees are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in teaching, communication, and relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

A positive and purposeful learning environment must be maintained at all times. Lessons should be structured, well-paced, and appropriately differentiated to meet pupil needs and curriculum targets.

Teaching & Learning Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, well-structured ICT/EdTech lessons that inspire, motivate, and challenge pupils, developing skills in digital media, computational thinking, online safety, and technological literacy across the Primary school, as required.

• Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Primary ICT & EdTech curriculum, ensuring it remains innovative, relevant, and aligned with global best practice.

• Take a lead role in creating a well-resourced and highly engaging learning environment.

• Model exemplary teaching through rigorous planning, effective classroom organisation, and high expectations for achievement and behaviour.

• Support Primary teachers in embedding technology meaningfully into their lessons through coaching, co-planning, and team-teaching where appropriate.

• Work closely with the Whole School Deputy Head, Deputy Head (Academics), and the relevant Secondary Departments to ensure progression, continuity, and a shared vision for digital learning across the College.

• Contribute to whole-school initiatives that promote digital citizenship, academic integrity, and responsible technology use.

• Support the College’s vision of developing learners, connectors, and changemakers through thoughtful and purposeful EdTech integration.

Strategic & Operational Management

• Develop and manage the ICT & EdTech budget, ensuring resources (hardware, software, subscriptions) effectively support learning goals.

• Monitor and assess pupil progress in digital skills, using data to inform curriculum development and teaching strategies.

• Ensure online safety and digital citizenship are embedded consistently across the Primary School.

• Drive the strategic use of EdTech tools (e.g. AI, VR, coding platforms) to enhance teaching and learning.

• Remain informed about emerging technologies and advise on their ethical, safe, and effective implementation in education.

AI Integration

• Assist with the development of policy and guidance to promote the responsible use of AI across the school, modelling and teaching safe, ethical, and inclusive digital practices.

• Collaborate with Primary Curriculum Leaders to identify opportunities for AI-enhanced learning across subjects, including English, Mathematics, Inquiry, and the creative arts.

• In conjunction with the Deputy Head (Academics), establish and develop a clear, coherent, and progressive Primary curriculum for computing, information technology, and educational technology.

Enrichment

• All staff are expected to contribute meaningfully to the College’s Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme.

• While engagement in a range of activities is encouraged, the successful candidate is expected to lead and support technology-focused CCAs, including:

o VEX Robotics

o Coding and computational thinking clubs

o Makerspace and STEM innovation activities

• Mentor pupils participating in technology competitions and events, supporting the development of problem-solving, teamwork, and creative design skills.

• Support colleagues delivering EdTech-related CCAs to ensure high standards and strong pupil engagement.

BASIC QUALIFICATION

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Teaching certificate with QTS or equivalent.

Working experience:

• A minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a primary school setting.

o Experience of international teaching is desirable but not essential.

• Experience in delivering professional development support to teachers in the ICT and/or EdTech space.

• Involvement in Technology competitions & Co-Curriculum programmes
