OBJECTIVES
To teach mathematics in an inspiring, challenging, rigorous manner to pupils in the primary school (mainly in upper primary school in the UK national curriculum and Shanghai Maths) and work cross different year groups to support mathematics across whole primary. This teacher is also responsible for challenging the most abled maths pupils in upper primary to ensure they make meaningful progress.
In the Primary School, the Maths department aims to provide an exciting and engaging mathematics curriculum that is truly preparatory for pupils’ futures. We develop highly effective approaches to teaching mathematics based on research and evidence; building pupils’ mathematical fluency. We aim to teach pupils to think mathematically through reasoning and problem solving. Emphasis is placed on pupils’ independence in learning so that they are able to draw on a complete set of skills and knowledge and to articulate their learning by the time they enter the Secondary School.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
• apply professional knowledge and experience to promote student learning
• use appropriate pedagogy, assessment techniques, reporting procedures, teaching and learning strategies and technology when planning for and responding to students
• ensure a sound and systematic approach to the teaching of literacy and numeracy
• refine professional practice through ongoing inquiry, dialogue, and the ability to critically reflect on personal growth and the progression of others
• participate willingly and actively in the various curriculum and planning teams
• employ strong administrative and organisational skills to ensure documentation of learning is maintained at a high professional standard
PARTICIPATION IN CO-CURRICULAR (CCA) PROGRAM
• actively support and contribute to the CCA program
• contribute positively to the spirit within the teams or groups
• promote the importance of good sportsmanship and cooperation
• foster positive working relationships with other coaches and staff to facilitate a well-rounded CCA program
BASIC QUALIFICATION
Education: Bachelor's Degree or relevant tertiary degree in mathematics
Major: major in mathematics
Language: Native in Chinese and fluent in English
EXPERTISE
• Professional teaching experience of at least 4 years teaching Maths in a Primary School
• Excellent subject knowledge
• Ability to assess student interests, needs and development
•Excellent written English and Chinese skills and effective interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent technological literacy across a range of applications
• Proven experience to develop innovative academic pathways to achieve outstanding maths academic results for all students
• Ability to work collaboratively with other members of staff.
• Demonstrated ability to have high expectations for all students
• Effective administrative and organisational skills.
